You know you've lost it when you've been craving Long John Silver's for more than a week. It's utterly ridiculous! The thought didn't even enter my mind while I was in the US, but two days after I got back it hit.
Now, I live in the land of fish and chips, but it's not the same. At all. For instance, the fish here still has the skin on under the batter - Ewwww. Sometimes, I can overlook this, but not when the craving is for skinless LJS fish. And chips are not french fries, no matter how many times you try to tell yourself that they are. French fries are skinny and don't really taste potato-y; chips are thick and sometimes overwhelm you with their starchiness. And the real kicker is that hushpuppies don't even exist - since cornmeal isn't available it wouldn't even occur to them to deep fry a cornmeal batter.
I've even tried walking past the local Chip Shop to try and assuage my hunger for LJS by breathing deeply of the fried fish smell - all to no avail. So if anyone has a great fake Long Johns Silver's fish recipe or knows how to make hushpuppies without cornmeal or a deep fryer, please comment and give me your secrets!
Meanwhile, I'll try to comfort myself with the knowledge that if it was available I probably wouldn't want it anyway :)

I haven't tried them, but I thought I'd try to help a sister out in her cravings for American goodness. :)
Thanks, Erin! I'll have to try them soon to see if this will do the trick.
