Today I walked to work in a proper downpour. Now, it wasn't an all out deluge like we used to get at home when the hurricanes would spin storm systems off the coast, but it was definitely an insistent rain. Fortunately, I was all kitted out and prepared.
- Waterproof over-trousers . . . check (thanks Mom!)
- Water repellent medium-weight coat . . . check
- Wellies . . . check
- Umbrella . . . double check
And this was just for today. I also have the following rain necessities in my wardrobe:
- Mesh tennis shoes with holes in the bottom so the rain washes right through - it gives me really clean feet, but it's too cold to wear them right now.
- Water-resistant heavy coat - for when it gets a few degrees cooler - I'm loving our short reprieve from the freezing cold!
- Waterproof windbreaker for summer wear.
It's really quite comical to think about watching me get ready to go out into or come in from the rain. It's like that relay I used to play in GA's where you put on all the clothes in a bag over top of your regular clothes, run to the other side, and then take them all off. The umbrella could be the baton that you pass, except for the fact that I'm not quite certain that I could actually let go of it. I'm starting to think it has become a permanent appendage of my body.
