To Sat Nav or Not to Sat Nav, that is the Question

Today some of the ladies from my office braved the open (left-sided driving) road and headed to Canterbury. It was quite the adventure. The driver of the car I was riding in had the sat nav (GPS system for my American friends) and was supposed the lead the way. This started out fine until we went to turn out of the PARKING LOT.

First turn. The sat nav said turn right, the driver was convinced it was wrong and turned left. We even had a conversation about it, this was no oops . . . I turned the wrong way.

As all good sat navs do, it promptly redirected the course and tried to get us turned around going the right direction. But nope, our driver still thinks the sat nav doesn't know what it's doing and goes the opposite way AGAIN. Long story short, we took a bit of a detour, but did eventually make it to our destination.

During this time I was a good backseat passenger and didn't say a word. But after the second wrong turn, God used the experience to speak to me.

How many times does He tell us the way we should go and we say, nope, I don't think so, I'll go the other way instead. And then He tries to step in and gently correct our course and we still don't listen. I know there are experiences in my own life that I could have avoided completely or much less painfully if I had just let Him be the sat nav, with me the obedient driver.

I'm so thankful that He loves me so much that even when I ignore his direction for a time, He always has a plan to plant me firmly back in His will.

Trust in the LORD with all your heart,
And lean not on your own understanding;
In all your ways acknowledge Him,
And He shall direct your paths.
Proverbs 3:5-6

I'm so glad I don't have GPS - I can read & rely on a real honest-to-goodness paper MAP :)

[and which, in spiritual terms, is my Bible!]
