Thanksgiving in Paris: Playing Tourist

Holidays are hard when you live far from home, especially the family-oriented ones.  While my American friends usually gather to have a Thanksgiving celebration, it's not the same.  In some ways it's even harder to pretend that you're enjoying the holiday when you stick with the traditions.  So this year I decided to change things up and went gallivanting for Thanksgiving . . . all the way to Paris!  As in France, not Tennessee.

The Arc de Triomphe.  It's enormous.

A view down the Champs-Elysees.

And here it is . . . the Eiffel Tower.  I didn't actually go up to it, just to a great viewing spot.  There were three things on my Paris must-do list 1) see the Eiffel Tower 2) eat chocolate for breakfast 3)  eat a real baguette.  Numbers 1 and 2 were checked off on our first morning.

Another view to help see how enormous it is.  It was REALLY difficult to get a decent picture here as there were tons of street vendors that would practically accost you to try to get you to buy their wares.  And they kept getting in my pictures as if that would persuade me to be more favorable toward their efforts.  To top it off, you're having to guard your belongings like a linebacker.  So, here you have it, the two out of about 47 pictures that are actually centered, focused, and have an unobstructed view of the right thing.

Super cool art nouveau metro entrance.

What's left of my savory ham and egg crepe.  Rest assured, I did later have a sweet one - nutella filled.  Yum!

Sacre-Coeur at the top of Montmartre.  It is built on the highest point in Paris.  There was a harp player on the steps playing Canon in D.

A view of the city from Montmartre.  I think the hot air balloon adds to the charm (it's to the left of the high-rise buildings).

A view down one of the avenues to the top of Montmartre.
