I just finished reading Outlive Your Life by Max Lucado. This is one of the few books that I’ve read in a while that actually made me excited to turn the page to see what was next. As the author focuses on the book of Acts, he uses the examples of various characters and stories to motivate the reader to live a life that will outlive your existence here on the earth.
A fast pace, light wit, and homey style combine to connect with the reader in a way that inspires action. Peter encourages us that God uses ordinary folks; Ananias and Sapphira remind us to be authentic in our giving . . . or else; Stephen prompt us to be bold in our faith; and Philip inspires us to reach out to all of those around us. Each Biblical account is also tied to a contemporary illustration that helps to contextualize the ancient actions to today’s culture.
Although I don’t always agree with everything that Max Lucado writes, this book was very well written and will stay on my bookshelves to be picked up again when I need a little “oomph” to remind me that what I do every day matters.
