Petworth Daffodils

Once again . . . I LOVE the National Trust.  Today's adventure - Petworth Park - with daffodils as far as the eye could see.  It was pretty amazing, especially since daffodils are my favorite flower.  I've decided I need to be wealthy when I grow up just so I can have loads of land to make a daffodil display like this.  Okay, so maybe that won't really work, but if you could have seen this in person it would have inspired you, too.  Here are some photographs to help you try to imagine how beautiful it was.  Please forgive the vast number of them . . . I just couldn't decide which ones I liked best!

 The first view.

 It was like carpet.

And went as far as you could see.

 A close up.

The grounds are considered to be a "landscape garden".  This one was designed by Capability Brown.  One of several buildings built to add to the ambiance.

 A panoramic shot.

Did I mention that the daffodils went as far as you could see?  If you look carefully you can see the mix of the different varieties.  Most are yellow, but some are white.

Inside the house was really neat artwork.  This is a sampler.
A) Can you imagine the patience it took to do this?
B)  The thread looked like it was made of gold and silver.

Grinling Gibbons wood carving - so intricate!

Copy of Chaucer's Canterbury Tales from circa 1420.  Please excuse the reflection of the chandelier.  They obviously did not plan the placement of the glass case for photographers.
Daffodils in the church yard with a few hyacinths showing through.

 St. Mary's Church.

Petworth House is in the background.  Do you see the lovely hyacinths peeking in among the daffodils?

It really was like something you would see in a movie.

 Another well-placed "landscape building".

Panoramic view of the daffodils in the trees.

One last look.  If I were a poet, this would definitely inspire me to write a masterpiece.

Your photos are lovely, but you are correct. They do not do justice to the beauty of the daffodils.

It was a good day. I enjoyed myself.

Wow Wow and Wow! I am with you - I'd rather have daffodils than roses anyday! I would love to see this someday! I have about 50 daffodils this year and want at least 500 more as soon as I can afford to buy more bulbs lol!!!! God definitely knew what he was doing when he planned this cheery flower for one of the first blooms of the year! :-) Thanks for sharing!
