The Accomplishment

This week, for the first time I can remember since moving here I finished an entire loaf of bread before it molded. This may seem trivial to some, but when you live in a damp climate it is quite the accomplishment.

Normally, it is a race against time to try to eat enough sandwiches and toast to avoid the green stuff. And almost without fail, I check my bread (1/2 a loaf or more still left of the mini-loaf I normally purchase) before I go to the store to make sure it's mold free and then the next morning when I go to make my lunch sandwich, the bread is fuzzy. It must be some type of Murphy's Law:

If your bread is mold free when you go to the store, then it will be overtaken by new growth overnight so as to prevent you from consuming a sandwich the next day since you didn't buy any while at the store.

I guess I should be thankful since it's saving me calories, but it sure can be annoying when you have your heart set on a salmon-salad sandwich so that your fish doesn't go bad. I'm telling you, it's a never ending battle.

But this week, victory was mine! It's not often that I win this one, so I'm planning to bask in the glory as long as possible.

I just bought a new loaf of bread - we'll have to see who wins the next round.
