Catching Up: The Cotswolds

A few Saturdays ago I made it to the Cotswolds with some friends.  FYI, wold means hills. This area is classically know for it's rolling hills and abundance of sheep pastures, and of course the cute cottages.  We made stops in two different towns, Burford and Bourton-on-the-Water.  I think it's neat that often village/town names incorporate a geographic identifier into their proper name.

Burford high street from the War Memorial at the top of the hill.  We had excellent weather for our jaunt.

Another view of Burford.  While we were here we ate lunch at one of the cutest pubs I've ever been to. The dining area was quite small and it was obvious we were the only "non-regulars" there.  I sat by the roaring fireplace - which was much needed given my cold-naturedness.  There were two dogs inside with us that laid by the fire.  I'm not really a fan of dogs in eating establishments, but it's normal here so I've learned to adapt.

Classic view of the red post box and telephone box.

Bourton-on-the-Water is also known as "Venice of the Cotswolds".  I've never been to Venice but if this is what it looks like it just went on my list of things to see.

I really like the architecture that is prevalent throughout much of the Cotswolds.  The Cotswold stone has a very distinctive look.

The River Windrush meanders through the town with scenic stone bridges spanning its width at regular intervals.  It's very picturesque.

LOVE this post! You should do a specialized guide book, based on all the places you've visited!
