Sad about S.A.D.

Today is Valentine's Day. I like Valentine's Day - it's a day to reflect on how much you love and are loved, plus it's a great excuse to eat candy. Unfortunately, many people don't like Valentine's Day, hence the alternate name for the day - Singles Awareness Day - or S.A.D. for short.

It makes me sad when the magic of the day is degraded to an excuse to be bitter or wallow in self pity. It's true that on days such as today the fact that you're not married or don't have a significant someone in your life can be magnified ten-fold, and that sometimes it just stinks to walk through life alone, but that is no excuse to take a day of celebration and to turn it into a day of giving yourself permission to have a pity party.

So, for all of my single friends out there - Happy Valentine's Day. Enjoy the day and keep the magic of "maybe someday." And above all, remember that you are loved, by the greatest love-er of all time.

"I have loved you, my people, with an everlasting love.
With unfailing love I have drawn you to myself."
Jeremiah 31:3
