Bring and Share, Round 2

Today, my small group from church, "The Twenties and Thirties," had a bring and share after church with another small group to get to know some other ages within the church. I have to admit, from the moment that this event was announced I was a bit intimidated. My round 1 with bring and shares did not really go so hot, so I was already nervous about a repeat performance.

After much contemplation, I decided to take a Cornbread Salad. It's cold, so it fit the Health and Safety guidelines, it's very American, so it fit the "tell us more about yourself" guideline, and it's what I wanted, so it fit the "it's what I want to eat" guideline. As all people know, you should always take something you really like to a potluck so you will at least have one edible option.

So, I chopped and drained and cooked and assembled and made a very beautiful layered cornbread salad. I carried it to church in the rain, carefully protecting it from any splashes by the passing cars. Then I surreptitiously placed it in the refrigerator at the church before anyone could see me - I didn't want a repeat of last time!

After the service, I helped to set up for the bring and share and waited with anticipation to see the results of my labor. We commenced the food line and by the time I got to my salad bowl, it was half-way devoured. Everyone was talking:

"What is that?"
"Who made it?"
"What's in it?"

It was a smashing hit. I even got asked for the recipe twice. They were rather bummed when I said it required cornbread. They don't even know what that is, nor does cornmeal exist here, although polenta does a pretty good job for a stand in.

So, the record now stands,

Me: 1; Bring and Share: 1

I intend to edge ahead at the next opportunity.
