Lyme Park

On the way home from The Lake District, we stopped off at Lyme Park. Some of you may know it better as Pemberly, Mr. Darcy's home, in the five hour BBC film version of Pride and Prejudice. It was pretty spectacular.

The view from the back lawn. Unfortunately, Mr. Darcy was not in residence when we visited.

The lake.

The Italian garden.

The Orangery, thus named because it was where the wealthy would grow citrus trees, including orange trees.

A view from the side looking over the terrace garden.

More gardens.

The all-important staircase that Mr. Darcy rushes down in an effort to catch Elizabeth Bennett.

The door that he rushes through from the courtyard. He did a lot of rushing here.

A slightly crooked view from the front. Personally, I think the back lawn view is much more impressive.
