I can't tell you how many times I got asked this question by American friends/family who think they're funny. Sigh. So the answer is that yes, indeed, England does have a Fourth of July, it just isn't their independence day.
However, I find it a bit ironic that there were quite a few celebrations including fireworks advertised by British entities. Somehow it just seems wrong that the losing side is celebrating. Oh well, to-may-to, to-mah-to.
